Dr. Dolittle

I'm watching the Rex Harrison version of Doctor Dolittle, a movie I watched many times growing up. But somehow I completely missed this song about him being a vegetarian. So now, I am surprised and delighted! He says it upsets the animals when he eats flesh, so he eats vegetables (and the animals steal food off his plate!) although he does miss eating meat and craves it, he does it wholeheartedly for his animals because he loves them so much. Is that not true for most of us?
